There are several sites that attempt to fund free software development by offering ‘bounties’ for adding particular features or solving particular bugs. Here are some:
- Bountysource
- FreedomSponsors
- CoFundOS
- OpenFunding is a kind of hybrid between bounties and a Kickstarter-style platform:
The developers propose their free software projects on the platform with a list of features and the amount of money they need to develop each of them. Users will fund the features with the amount they want according to their interests. Once the requested amount is reached, the project owner can start the development. The developer determines the delivery date when the project is finished. Users then have 14 days to validate the result or request corrections. The developer is paid only after validation by the users.
